Unbelievably, we have opened. These young people who spent their entire rehearsals wearing face masks doing full choreography and singing on full voice for 8 hours straight every day have all of my heart.
Sweet Charity! Live and in person!
We have very fortunately been given an exemption to rehearse Sweet Charity on campus! Given that these students need to have a production in order to graduate, and not just the performing students, also the design students who have been assigned to the production. The lighting designer, the set and costume designers, the sound designers. There’s a lot of very talented young people that I’m very lucky to be watching at this early stage of their careers.
It also means I actually get to be around people on my birthday, and the best part of working on a musical on your birthday is that you get sung to in glorious 4 part harmony.
Sweet Charity - VCA 3rd year Music Theatre production
I have signed on to be the assistant director for a musical, just as a change of pace, working with the lovely Jayde Kirchert of Citizen Theatre. As is increasingly becoming the norm, the current 6th lockdown that Melbourne is going through has meant that our production of Sweet Charity will be postponed. After trying to persevere on Zoom, the extension has meant that we will pick up when we are finally released.
Monsters rehearsals
It is the height of privilege to be able to get a peek into the rehearsals for this phenomenal work. After being on zoom for a week, we finally got to be in a room together. Even more incredible is being able to watch Stephanie Lake work with her dancers. Cannot wait to see how this work shapes up.
Besen Family Artists!
I’m beyond excited to announce that I’ve been selected to be the directing placement for the Besen Family Artist program at Malthouse Theatre for 2021. I’ll be joining some tremendous artists and have the opportunity to work on 2 projects in this year’s season.
